We are often asked where are the most beautiful temples in Thailand? Thailand has so many temples, they are located just about everywhere. However, there are many that are more popular than others and some that have become iconic statements about Thailand. Here we name three temples that we feel really are up there as the most beautiful temples in Thailand.
The Sanctuary Of Truth.
Located in Pattaya, the Sanctuary of Truth is quite simply, breathtaking. Based on both Buddhist and Hindu motifs the Sanctuary of Truth is majestic in every form. Its beauty is even more significant when you realise that the entire building is constructed from wood, and that not one single nail has been used to construct this amazing temple. The temple is held together by all manner of wooden joints, a carpenters dream. The construction is ongoing, and a date of 2025 has been penciled in as the date of completion. You can walk around the entire temple and watch as the workers apply their trade, carving intricate designs lovingly into the wooden pillars. The temple is breathtakingly beautiful and in our opinion one of the most beautiful temples in Thailand.
Wat Phra Kaew.
Bangkok has so much to see and od and one of the main places to visit has to be The Temple of the Emerald Buddha. The temple is considered among many as the most important Buddhist temple in all of Thailand. To find the temple you have to enter the grounds of the Grand Palace, there you will find Phra Kaew Morakot (aka. the Emerald Buddha). This is a highly revered image of the Lord Buddha sitting in a meditating pose and carved from a single block of Jade. The legend of the Buddhist statue holds that it is almost 2,000 years old, carved a mere five centuries after the Lord Buddha attained Nirvana. It was moved to Thailand in 1782 and has resided there ever since. Wat Phra Kaew is everything you would expect, it’s magnificent, beautiful and a true reflection of the beauty that Thailand is all about. This is why in our opinion Wat Phra Kaew is one of the most beautiful temples in Thailand.
Wat Rong Khun
Yes before you say it, Wat Rong Khun is not your typical Buddhist temple. however, you cannot travel Thailand without paying a visit! Thai artist Chaloemchai Khositphiphat started construction in 1998 and has created what can only be described as an ingenious masterpiece of architecture. The reason that Wat Rong Khun is not strongly associated with being a Buddhist temple, is because as well as all the Buddhist statues and carvings, Khositphiphat has intermixed images such as Predator, George W Bush and Spiderman. We have never had the opportunity to ask him why, but for whatever reason he has! So, aside from his decision to include strange references to other outside influences, Wat Rong Khun is still highly regarded as being one of the most beautiful temple in Thailand, and when you visit you will understand why!
So, if you are looking to visit a temple today that will simply mesmerize you with it’s beauty, well we have given you three places to visit, and each one is very worthy of being considered among the most beautiful temples in Thailand.
